Investigation Result Biological Reference Interval

Typhoid IgG Negative Negative
Typhoid IgM Negative Negative

Sample : Serum. Method: Immunochromatography. INTERPRETATION(S): Typhoid IgG/IgM is a rapid screening test for detection of antibodies to Salmonella typhi & paratyphi. Accurate diagnosis of Typhoid fever at an early stage is not only important for etiological diagnosis, but also to identify and treat potential carriers and prevent acute typhoid fever outbreaks. The conventional Widal test detects antibodies to S .typhi in patient serum from the second week of onset of symptoms whereas early rising antibodies predominantly IgM in nature or IgM/IgG positive suggests current infection, while IgG positive suggests late stage of infection, previous infection or latent infection. Low titre of IgM antibodies to S.typhi may persist for about 4 months post infection in endemic areas.
